SHABLA WILL HOST THE SECOND FESTIVAL OF KITES ON 22 AND 23 SEPTEMBER 2012

The event is organized by BSPB and is dedicated to the conservation of the globally threatened Red-breasted Goose  
Shabla Kite Festival - a colorful, spacy and definitely unusual event in late summer – will be held for the second consecutive year on 22 and 23 September 2012 near the oldest lighthouse on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, the one at cape Shabla.
The Festival is organized by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) and Shabla Municipality.
The natural features of the area makes it a favorite wintering spot for endangered Red-breasted Goose, and the beauty of the sloping cliffs and broad meadows with constant breeze are ideal stage for the Festival of kites, dedicated to the conservation of this bird. The event includes racing kites, performances of youth theater and music ensembles and artistic formations from the region and abroad. And more: street artists from around the country will draw their works on huge tanks, old fishing boats and other unusual "canvasses", amidst the unique exterior of the Festival, near the sea and on the background of Shabla lighthouse . Hopefully the artwork of the young artists will stay to remind long of the occasion of the Festival – the emblematic Red-breasted Goose.
The accompanying events during the two days of the festival are also quite diverse - workshops and art studios where kids will be making kites, origami, birds and dolls from natural materials, will be painting on ceramics, will demonstrate techniques for decoration and design graffiti on cardboard and other available materials.
At the BSPB stand visitors will be able to register for a birdwatching trip in the area with a professional guide, and those who are interested in photography could participate in the photography sessions and workshops at the spot. The best works of these sessions, similar to the first edition of the festival, will become part of a traveling exhibition of selected photographs from Kite Festival 2012.
At the end of the first festival day, at 19:30 pm, the second edition of Kite Festival - Shabla 2012 will be officially opened at the Green Education Center in the town of Shabla.  Film screenings and an outdoor concert will follow in the beautiful park of the Green Centre, while in the Centre main hall visitors will be able to see the photographic exhibition "Wildlife and birds."
During the two days of the festival we expect to attract many visitors from the country and abroad.  Everybody supporting the green idea, loving nature, kite flying, outdoor painting, music, photography, and the great outdoors is welcome to share this experience with a hint of salty sea breeze in the soft twilight of the receding day.
The event is organized with the support of the Green Center in the town of Shabla, Bulgarian Federation of Aeromodelling, Amorpha Youth Group, Bulgarian Academy of Photography «Yanka Kyurkchieva", Varna Photographic Society, Mall Varna, and many other friends of ours from Shabla area and nationwide .
The festival is part of the «Safe Ground for Redbreasts" project, funded by the LIFE + Programme of the European Union.
